Like in the 'Elementary conducting course', development or improvement of elementary conducting technique that forms a foundation upon which can be build later, is also premise in the 'Elementary conducting course-extended'. This is important for any conductor, vocal or instrumental. In both courses, the development or improvement of a solid elementary conducting technique is therefore central. Directions of the conductor are clear and are effectively monitored.
The Elementary course-extended however elaborates on the subjects, studied works are a slightly more difficult and the pace of study is a bit higher. For more details about target groups, see 'Target Groups' below.
During the course a small group of participants (maximum 6) work intensively during 5 sessions on basic techniques which are essential for every conductor. This is done through group exercises and conducting exercises in which a participant works with the rest of the group. Video footage made during the course sessions are discussed on site. Several choral works are prepared. During the last week of the course, participants have the opportunity to conduct a vocal or instrumental group or during a lab-conducting session. This session will be recorded on video. During the fifth and final course session the video recordings of the lab session will be evaluated.
For participants who have participated in the Elementary conducting course, the 'Elementary course-extended' will be a continuation of what was covered during the earlier course.
Some knowledge of music theory is required to participate (reading in G and F keys and rhythms, knowledge of chords and keys).
Participants receive a certificate of participation after completing the course.
Because of the fact that the Elementary Conducting Course-extended coveres basic conducting techniques, this course is suitable for participants who work or plan to work with both choirs or instrumental ensembles / orchestras.
