Elementary conducting course - follow-up

This course has started. The next elementary follow-up conducting course will be in November 2011. Dates: 29/10, 5/11, 12/11, 19/11. Preliminary date for the lab session (choir rehearsal): 16 or 17/11. Details will soon be announced on this website. You can receive information or register for the course in November here.

Similar to the 'Elementary conducting course', the 'Elementary conducting course - follow up' is intended for those who have little or no conducting experience, but who learned their basics during conducting lessons or a conducting course or who are self taught. The follow-up course covers almost the same subjects as the Elementary course, however these will be discussed further. For those who already participated in an ´Elementary conducting course´, the content of this course follows up on the earlier elemantary course.

In this course, participants work intensively in a small group on basic conducting skills that are essential to any conductor. During the third session the participants will have the opportunity to bring the learned skills into practice with a group of experienced singers or instrumentalists. For this course, the Regenboogcantorij granted its support. During the fourth and last course session, video recordings made during the rehearsal will the Regenboogcantorij will be evaluated. Audio visual resources are also used during the other course sessions. Some knowledge of music theory will be required for participation in this course. Participants receive a certificate of participation after the course.

Since the 'Elementary conducting course - follow up' covers general conducting techniques, this course is suitable for participants wo work or who want to work with choirs as well as instrumental ensembles or orchestras.

Target group

• The elementary conducting follow-up course is for participants who have little to no experience in conducting and who want to work on fundamental conducting techniques. It is suited for participants intending to lead a choir, ensemble or orchestra and those who are already doing so, but who wish to train their fundamental conducting skills.

Course objectives

• Conducting technique (start, cut-off, time signature, rhythms, fermata, dynamics, entries, sound character, changes in tempo, etc.)
• Gesticulation (communicating artistic directions to the ensemble)
• Body language (posture, pose)
