Music teachers are increasingly faced with situations in which they have to lead ensembles during lessons and performances. Many teachers are apprehensive about this as they lack the experience or training in conducting. With this in mind, course Instructor Michel Havenith has compiled this training in conducting student ensembles.
The training is conducted within a group and has been received by music schools with great enthusiasm. According to former participants, the training has proven to be highly effective in day-to-day practice, and is also a great way to take team building to the next level. And last, but not least, it is a great, fun activity.
The set-up of the sessions and music is specifically intended for present-day practice. A special element within the training is that the group of music teachers (about eight participants) form their own rehearsal ensemble. Because of this fact, the participants will gain substantial experience conducting a ‘real’ ensembles themselves and the course itself is very hands-on and goal-orientated. Issues that exist in day-to-day practice will be worked on with suitable music but without any frills. As colleagues, you will have the opportunity to share familiar experiences and issues. Audio-visual media will be used during the course.
This ensemble leadership course can qualify for a subsidy in the field of extra training for music teachers. As a rule of thumb, the training is initiated on request by the music school.
